Editorial Brief: Part 1

Late again I'm afraid, I've had a mad few days. :< However! Here is the first of my two editorial updates.

From Monday 16th through to Thursday 19th, my class was each given one article from various publications to illustrate. We had to complete all our idea development, thumbnails and a black and white / greyscale rough by the end of the working day and email our final idea to our tutors at UCLan. And this sounds terribly lazy of me but it's really not a method I feel comfortable working in. > < I like getting lots of feedback and having a couple of days to spend on a single image, but the editorial world just isn't like that. XD
Here are my roughs from that week. If you click on the images you can see them more clearly; most are roughly A4 size.

MONDAY

Editorial Brief 1: 'End World Poverty'
Article from Time Out on giving to charity and how according to one philosopher, everyone should give away at least 1% of our income as even a small amount will make a huge difference if everyone does the same.

TUESDAY

Editorial Brief 2: 'You May Scoff'
Article from the New Scientist on losing weight and how there are often surprising ways of doing so, such as having a lie-in, turning off lights and breathing fresh country air.

WEDNESDAY

Editorial Brief 3: 'How to Maximize Your Memory'
Article from The Guardian on different techniques of processing, memorizing and retaining information.

THURSDAY

Editorial Brief 4: 'Staging Serendipity'
Article from Intelligent Life magazine on how technology and the Internet can prevent us from stumbling upon new and exciting finds.

It was a really varied brief and I enjoyed reading the articles; we were lucky they were so full of imagery. :3 It was interesting to see how everyone dealt with the workload as well; it's a good way to make sure you don't spend too long on debating and deliberating over every tiny detail, and just get your ideas down on paper. It was definitely challenging.
We had a critique on Tuesday where we discussed our rough work in small groups and chose the two we are going to finish for this Friday; I chose Tuesday's and Wednesday's to develop further, and I'll post those up when they're finished.

More updates to come, one for a visiting lecture we had on Friday and more editorial work - I also have my drawing elective which I'll upload in part and our new module DD2000, which actually consists updating this blog, but I'll post more about that later. -3-; My brain's floated off at the moment and twisted itself into a pretzel of confusion so I'll wrap up. Thank you for dropping by, and I'll update again later this week. <3
