modules and mermaids

I have so many things on the go at the moment~ I've started sewing again, I've got about six projects both personal and uni-related going on and am having trouble managing my hours...there's so much I want to start or get done and I'm struggling to find time for all of it. I'd much rather have it this way than have little to no inspiration though, since I sometimes drift through seemingly endless, depressing days where I don't feel creative at all and just flop around. I'm determined not to let this happen again for some time, and the best way I've found is to just keep writing and doodling ideas all over the house. Here are various artscapades I have been working on this summer (click on each image to see a larger/higher quality version).

Finished flower illustrations for the kitchen~ I used tissue paper, dark pencils and painted over it with a tester pot of wallpaper paint, which looks nice and fragile I think.

Some sketchbook drawings for my 'natural forms' project, which I have to hand in on 17th August. It's mostly observational and I'm quite enjoying it, although since I wrote the project brief myself it's just theme-based and not very specific. This is a resubmission from a module I missed in first year and have to catch up to carry on into third, so I'm feeling a bit frantic about it. It does give me some background into writing a brief though (I need to write three more for September).

A more personal project; this is the costume I wore for Manchester MCM Expo on 21st July. I made it all by hand which was a very silly thing to do as I'd never sewn a jacket before and the sailor collar was a bit finicky. I only have one photo of me in the actual costume but it's a side shot and doesn't really give you much idea of what it looks like on. I promise it looks better off the coat hanger -u-;

And a silly teeny mermaid I drew last night. I've just got the hang of making animated gifs using only Photoshop and it seems to be working alright. We dabbled in animation in first year and I was never very confident with it, but I'm much more comfortable with digital media now.

I'm going to the Fringe festival in August - mostly for the stand up comedy but there are galleries and opportunities for exploration during the day when we're not watching shows, and I can't wait. I haven't been to Edinburgh in years and never had time for doing an art trail, so I'll hopefully find time for that in August. I still have a children's book to write for our summer project (I chose 'An end to loneliness' as a theme from the briefs we were given), little bits of children's illustration I'm working on in my spare time, jewellery, model-making and more sewing to do. It's a very creative summer this year c:
Sorry for the mixing pot post but I'm catching up! I'll upload some more drawing and things when I get a spare minute. Here's hoping I don't lose it completely ;; Thanks for dropping by <3
